The North
London Lettering Association was formed in Spring 2001 out
of a desire to offer those interested in and practising the
craft of calligraphy and lettering in the area north of the
Thames, an opportunity to enjoy regular monthly meetings,
lectures, workshops and exhibitions.
Our numbers
have continued to grow over the years, and we have arranged
numerous displays and exhibitions throughout the area.
We meet once a
month at
the Cufos Community Centre, which is to be found at the top
of The Avenue, London N10. The Centre was formed over
twenty years ago by the local community from the Booking
Hall and Waiting Rooms of the old Alexandra Palace Station,
and now, as part of Alexandra Palace, is a Grade II listed
building.
Our meetings
include talks, often illustrated, given by prominent
professional calligraphers and letterers, covering a variety
of crafts such as bookbinding, glass engraving and stone
carving.
We hold an
annual exhibition, issue a
newsletter twice a year, aim to hold regular workshops,
arrange visits to exhibitions of interest, and provide our
members with information regarding suitable events around
the country.
The Association
is affiliated to the Calligraphy & Lettering Arts Society (CLAS),
and we have a reciprocal relationship with the South London
Lettering Association. |
